KUCHING – The 722 Walk of Inclusiveness, held in conjunction with Sarawak Day 2025, brought together thousands in a heartfelt demonstration of unity, identity and pride under the banner of “Spirit of Sarawak Talukka.”
The event, hosted by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and led by Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, symbolised the strength of Sarawak’s multicultural identity and its people’s unwavering commitment to the state’s future.
Speaking during the opening ceremony at MBKS headquarters, Dato Wee expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic turnout.
“I’m standing here with open arms, thankful and proud. The 722 Walk is more than a physical journey—it’s a symbol of unity that embraces the heart of every Sarawakian,” he said.
The programme, which included leaders from across local authorities such as Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Dato Dr Zaiedi Suhaili, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman Cr. Tan Kai, and Dato Hilmy Othman, underscored the spirit of collaboration among the councils.
“The vision was always for all three councils to come together as one family—Sarawak’s children. Today, that dream became a reality,” added Dato Wee.
Covering a 4-kilometre route, the walk culminated at Padang Merdeka, where participants gathered in unity to commemorate Sarawak Day 2025. The marchers carried with them messages of hope, identity, and a call for sustained rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“722 is not just a date—it’s a reminder. We, the people and leaders of Sarawak, continue to assert our rights and identity as enshrined in MA63,” he declared.
He also encouraged citizens to take part in the annual event as a way of engaging with Sarawak’s socio-political evolution, reminding everyone that active civic participation is key to shaping Sarawak’s future.
“The more we rise as Sarawakians, the stronger we become as a community and as a state,” he emphasised.
The 722 Walk of Inclusiveness now stands not only as a celebration of Sarawak Day but as a reflection of the resilient spirit and unity of its people.
