KUCHING – Police have arrested a 53-year-old local man and seized music equipment following an enforcement operation at an entertainment centre in the Kuching Airport Road area.
The Kuching District Police Chief said the arrest was made at about 10.45pm on 4 September 2026 after the premises was suspected of operating without a valid entertainment licence.
The seized music equipment is being treated as part of the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 5(1) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2000. The provision concerns the operation of entertainment activities without a valid licence.
If convicted, an offender under the provision may face a fine of up to RM20,000, imprisonment for a term of up to five years, or both, according to the police statement.
The case comes amid ongoing enforcement efforts aimed at ensuring entertainment premises in the Kuching district comply with licensing and operating requirements set by the authorities.
Police said monitoring and enforcement operations would continue from time to time, with officers checking entertainment premises to ensure operators comply with the applicable regulations.
The district police chief also advised operators to obtain the necessary entertainment licences before conducting business. Operators were reminded that activities should remain within the operating hours specified by the authorities.
The licensing requirement is intended to regulate entertainment activities and ensure premises operate within the conditions imposed by the relevant authorities.
Businesses that provide entertainment services are therefore expected to ensure their licences remain valid and that their activities comply with the terms attached to them.
Police did not provide further details on the identity of the premises or the specific music equipment seized during the operation.
The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged operation without a valid entertainment licence and any further action that may be required under the law.
The latest enforcement action also serves as a reminder to entertainment venue operators in Kuching to review their licensing status and operating conditions.
