KUCHING – The PERKATA Sarawak Open Day Sale 2026 brought community members, businesses and volunteers together in Kuching on Sunday to raise funds for the education, training and activities of children with special needs.
Held from 7am to noon at the PERKATA Sarawak premises, the charity sale featured food and other items offered by participating groups, with proceeds intended to support students at PERKATA Special School.
The event was officiated by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, whose attendance demonstrated support for the fundraising initiative and the organisation’s work with children with intellectual disabilities.
Among those participating was the SUPP Batu Lintang Branch Dong Ge Team, which contributed to the event by selling Sarawak Laksa and a selection of cakes. The team reported that all its laksa and cakes were sold during the sale, contributing to the fundraising effort.
The team also acknowledged S Mega Maju Sdn Bhd for sponsoring the Sarawak Laksa served at the event. The sponsorship helped the team participate in the charity sale while supporting PERKATA Sarawak’s efforts to provide educational and related services to children with special needs.
Organisers and participants expressed appreciation to sponsors, volunteers, visitors and members of the public who supported the initiative through purchases and donations. Their contributions helped bring together different sections of the community around a shared cause.
PERKATA Sarawak is a non-governmental organisation that provides education and support for children with intellectual disabilities. Its work includes activities intended to support students’ learning and development, with public contributions playing a role in sustaining its programmes.
Funds raised through events such as the annual open day sale can help organisations maintain educational activities, provide training opportunities and support the wider needs of students.
Community fundraising also creates opportunities for businesses, voluntary groups and individuals to contribute to services that benefit families and children.
For organisations working with children with disabilities, sustained support is important to maintaining programmes that help students develop their abilities and participate in learning and social activities.
Fundraising initiatives can complement other sources of support, including sponsorships and donations, although the amount raised at Sunday’s event was not disclosed.
The participation of the SUPP Batu Lintang Branch Dong Ge Team also illustrated how local community groups can contribute through practical activities.
By preparing and selling food, participating groups can attract visitors to fundraising events while directing attention towards the organisations and causes they support.
Sarawak Laksa and cakes were among the items available through the team’s contribution, combining a familiar local food offering with the charity sale’s fundraising purpose. The team said the complete sale of its prepared items reflected the response to its stall during the event.
PERKATA Sarawak hopes continued public support will help sustain the activities and welfare programmes associated with its special school.
Donations, sponsorships and community participation remain important avenues through which supporters can contribute to the organisation’s work.
The open day sale highlighted the role of community cooperation in supporting education and opportunities for children with special needs.
Through the combined efforts of participating groups, sponsors, volunteers and visitors, the event provided a platform for public involvement in PERKATA Sarawak’s cause. â Sarawak Daily
