BETONG – A total of 120 residents in Betong, including senior citizens and children with disabilities, received essential household items through the Ancestor Memorial Contribution Programme organised by the Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Society on Tuesday.
The distribution, held in conjunction with the Ancestor Memorial celebration, provided rice, eggs, sugar, salt, instant noodles, and cooking oil to recipients from the Malay, Chinese, and Iban communities as well as the Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) Betong.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, commended the NGO’s dedication, describing it as a strong complement to government assistance.
“Not many NGOs are as active and committed as you are. This adds great value to the community besides the help extended by the Welfare Department,” he said.
Also present, Betong MP Dato Dr Richard Rapu, praised the society’s consistent outreach efforts, noting its importance at a time when many households face higher living costs.
He reminded the public that the government continues to implement support measures such as SKAS, STR, Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), and the latest RM100 one-off aid for individuals aged 18 and above.
The society’s chairperson, Chan Chu Chu, explained that the contributions were part of the group’s annual commitment to help ease burdens in the community.
The ceremony was also attended by representatives from the Betong Resident’s Office, Welfare Department, and PDK Betong, alongside local community leaders including Temenggung Kueh Tu Teck of the Chinese community.
