21 Foreigners Held in Online Gambling Raid in Siburan

21 Foreigners Held in Online Gambling Raid in Siburan

KUCHING — A total of 21 foreigners were detained during a series of enforcement raids carried out by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Sarawak at premises suspected of operating online gambling activities in Siburan and Batu 7.

The operation was conducted from Feb 26 to Feb 27 following public tip-offs regarding illegal activities at several premises around Pekan Siburan and Pekan Batu 7 along Jalan Kuching–Serian. Acting swiftly on the information received, the Enforcement Division of JIM Sarawak mobilised officers to inspect the locations believed to be involved in online gambling operations.

According to the department, the coordinated action resulted in the detention of 21 foreign nationals for further investigation. Initial checks found that the individuals are suspected of committing various immigration offences. Among the offences identified were failure to possess valid travel documents and misuse of passes issued to them.

The department did not disclose the nationalities of those detained but confirmed that all individuals have been taken into custody for documentation and further legal processes. Authorities are currently investigating the extent of their involvement in the suspected online gambling activities as well as any possible links to larger syndicates.

JIM Sarawak stressed that enforcement efforts will continue to be intensified, especially against foreigners who violate Malaysian laws. The department reiterated that strict action will be taken under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

The department also reminded employers and premises owners not to engage or harbour individuals without proper documentation. Such actions, if proven, may result in severe penalties under existing laws.

Meanwhile, the public has been urged to continue cooperating with enforcement agencies by providing information on suspicious activities involving illegal immigrants or unlawful operations. Authorities emphasised that community support plays an important role in maintaining national security and upholding the country’s sovereignty.

The latest operation reflects the government’s firm stance against illegal activities and immigration offences in Sarawak. With continued enforcement and public vigilance, authorities aim to ensure that the law is respected and that peace and order are preserved across the state.
