KUCHING – A total of 345 asnaf recipients from several neighbourhoods in Gita and Matang received Aidilfitri donations during a welfare programme held at Kampung Pinang Jawa, Gita, on Sunday.
The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof. The annual programme was organised by the Kampung Gita/Matang Muslim Welfare Trust Board to help ease living costs and support families preparing for the festive season.
Recipients came from eight surrounding areas, including Kampung Pinang Jawa, Kampung Gita Laut and Sri Melati, Kampung Gita Lama and Sungai Maong, Kampung Gita Baru and Taman Marple Kuching, Kampung Gita Tengah, Taman Gita Jaya, Taman Fitrah, Taman Rose and Taman Foong Joon, as well as the Laruh Scheme and Batu 2½ Jalan Matang.
Kampung Pinang Jawa recorded the highest number of recipients, with 72 people. Kampung Gita Baru and Taman Marple Kuching followed with 65 recipients, while Kampung Gita Lama and Sungai Maong accounted for 60.

Fadillah said programmes like this offer more than financial assistance. They strengthen ties between community leaders and residents while reflecting values of compassion, unity, and shared responsibility, especially during Ramadan and in preparation for Aidilfitri.
The welfare programme has become a long-standing tradition for the Gita and Matang communities, ensuring that asnaf groups receive support every year. Organisers said the effort focuses not only on donations but also on building stronger relationships within the community.
Also present was Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak and Tupong State Assemblyman. His attendance highlighted the importance of cooperation among leaders and community groups when supporting those in need.
Through initiatives like this, the Kampung Gita/Matang Muslim Welfare Trust Board continues to support community welfare, helping families celebrate Aidilfitri with greater ease and dignity.
