MIRI — Circular Skate Park at Miri’s Circular Park now boasts a vibrant new attraction — a three-dimensional (3D) floor mural titled “Random Female Skate Boarder”, created by renowned local artist Kong Chak Kiong, better known as Corn. The mural has quickly gained popularity among local youths, street art lovers, and extreme sports enthusiasts, and is set to become a fresh icon for creative tourism in the city.
The 3D mural, which transforms the park’s floor into an illusion of movement and depth, was selected through a public voting process held in April. It emerged as the top choice among various design submissions and officially commenced on April 16, with completion in July 2025.
The initiative is the result of a community-private collaboration, with full sponsorship by the Shin Yang Group through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
During a recent visit, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts and ADUN Piasau, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, lauded the project as a reflection of Miri’s youthful energy and creative spirit.
“This mural was chosen by the people of Miri themselves, making it truly special. It is not only a symbol of creativity but also community pride,” he said.
Datuk Sebastian also announced that Bulatan Skate Park is set for future upgrades, with plans to include a jogging path, basketball court, speed board zone, cycling area, and inclusive action games, aiming to transform the park into one of the most complete recreational spaces in Sarawak.
The “Random Female Skate Boarder” mural is expected to attract not only local visitors but also tourists and international street art fans, further establishing Miri as a hub for arts, culture, and extreme sports.
