3rd Mile Market Reopens Oct 24 with Safer Flooring and Eco Upgrades

3rd Mile Market Reopens Oct 24 with Safer Flooring and Eco Upgrades

KUCHING, Oct 23: The 3rd Mile Market’s ground floor will reopen tomorrow (Oct 24), welcoming the public and traders back after its recent flooring upgrade. The upgraded flooring now features an anti-slip epoxy flake coating, improving safety by reducing the risk of slips and falls, particularly in wet conditions.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai expressed his satisfaction with the project, ensuring the public that their shopping experience will be safer and more enjoyable.

The market, which was closed on Oct 14 for improvements, has seen several upgrades aimed at providing a safer and more modern space for both shoppers and hawkers. One of the key upgrades includes the installation of a rainwater harvesting system, which will collect rainwater for cleaning purposes, aligning with the council’s sustainability goals.

“We hope these improvements will enhance the market experience for everyone,” said Tan during his site inspection.

The RM300,000 project also includes the construction of staircase awnings, the replacement of polycarbonate roofing, painting works, waterproofing of the roof slabs, and the installation of 15 ceiling fans to improve ventilation.

For further details or updates on the market’s improvements, the public can contact MPP’s chairman, councillors, or staff.
