KUCHING, March 6, 2026 – The Immigration Department has detained 40 illegal foreign immigrants in a late-night enforcement operation at several shared houses in the Samarahan and Sejingkat areas.
The operation, carried out by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division, took place around midnight and involved a team of 30 immigration officers. The raid targeted shared houses believed to be used to accommodate foreign workers employed at nearby construction sites.
According to an official statement, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to address the presence of undocumented migrants in the state. The enforcement team moved in simultaneously at several locations after gathering intelligence on the premises.
During the raid, several individuals attempted to flee upon realising the presence of enforcement officers. However, their escape attempts were quickly stopped due to the swift and coordinated action of the officers on duty. The situation was brought under control without any reported injuries.
All 40 individuals arrested are suspected of violating Malaysia’s immigration laws. Initial checks found that some of them did not possess valid travel documents, while others were believed to have overstayed their permitted period of stay in the country. Further investigations are being conducted to determine the exact offences committed under the Immigration Act.
Following their arrest, all detainees were transported to the Semuja Immigration Depot in Serian for detention and documentation processes. Authorities will carry out detailed investigations before further legal action is taken.
The Immigration Department stressed that such operations will continue from time to time, especially in areas identified as hotspots for illegal foreign workers. Employers have also been reminded to ensure that all foreign workers under their employment possess valid permits and documents.
The department reiterated its commitment to upholding the country’s immigration laws and safeguarding national security. Firm enforcement, they said, is necessary to ensure that Malaysia’s labour system remains orderly and lawful.
Members of the public are encouraged to cooperate with authorities by providing information related to illegal immigration activities. The Immigration Department assured that all information received will be treated with strict confidentiality.
