SARIKEI: A total of 40 community leaders from the Sarikei District received their Certificates of New Appointment and Re-appointment in a ceremony held at the Sarawak Government Administrative Centre in Sarikei Division on Thursday.

The event was officiated by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Natural Sustainability, who is also Sarikei Member of Parliament and Repok State Assemblyman (ADUN), Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii.

Of the total, 36 leaders received extensions to their current appointments, while four new individuals were appointed as community leaders—comprising positions such as Kapitan and Tuai Rumah.

In his address, Dato’ Sri Huang stressed that the appointment carries significant responsibilities and is not merely a ceremonial recognition.

“KMKKs are grassroots leaders who play a crucial role as intermediaries between the government and the people,” he said.

He urged all KMKKs to remain alert to the needs of their communities and to actively raise emerging issues with relevant departments and agencies for swift resolution.

Dato’ Sri Huang also reminded that community leadership must remain inclusive and serve the entire population impartially, regardless of political affiliation, in line with Sarawak’s dynamic development.

“We must function as one strong team, working closely with the Resident’s Office and the Sarikei District Office to uplift community welfare and progress,” he added.
