KUCHING, 20 May 2025 – A dramatic early morning incident shocked passersby when a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle suddenly caught fire in front of the popular 101 commercial area on Jalan Tun Jugah, here.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the emergency call came in at 2.35am, prompting an immediate response from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Batu Lintang).

“A total of eight firemen in a fire engine rushed to the scene and arrived by 2.42am. Upon arrival, they discovered that a 4WD vehicle was completely engulfed in flames,” said PBK I (TBK I) Abdul Aziz Swandi, the operation commander on duty.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported as the vehicle appeared to be unoccupied at the time of the fire.

“The operation team managed to control the fire by 3.12am, and the operation was fully concluded by 3.14am,” he added in an official statement from the JBPM’s Operations Centre (PGO).

The cause of the fire and the vehicle’s registration number remain unknown at this time. Authorities are expected to carry out further investigations to determine the source of the blaze.

The fire, although quickly handled, serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety awareness, especially for vehicle owners. Drivers are advised to regularly check their vehicles for wiring issues, fuel leaks, and other fire hazards.

Local residents and netizens have praised the quick response by the JBPM team, which prevented the fire from spreading to nearby premises or causing harm to the public.
