Distribution of 500 Sago Porridges Strengthens Charity and Unity in Mukah

MUKAH – The distribution of 500 packets of sago porridge, locally known as bubur dedenguk, brought more than just a traditional treat to the people of Mukah.

The event, held at Dataran Pehin Setiaraja on Saturday, also strengthened community spirit, volunteerism, and unity.

The programme was organised by the Mukah Division Welfare Volunteers Organisation in collaboration with the Mukah Division Social Welfare Office, with support from Royston Valentine. Its goal was to reinforce community ties while promoting mutual help among residents.

Before the distribution, volunteers gathered at Kampung Petanak Surau for a gotong-royong cooking session.

Residents from across the Mukah Division worked together to prepare the porridge, showcasing teamwork and camaraderie that reflected the community’s strong bonds.

The initiative offered more than a chance to enjoy a local delicacy. It also provided an opportunity to build friendships and encourage cooperation.

Organisers said such programmes are important for preserving cultural heritage while promoting social unity.

Royston Valentine praised the volunteers for their dedication and stressed the importance of continuing community-driven activities.

He said these programmes foster solidarity and provide meaningful experiences for everyone involved.

Bubur dedenguk holds cultural significance in Mukah, and sharing it with the community reinforced local heritage while encouraging acts of kindness, especially during Ramadan.

Residents ended the event by enjoying the porridge together, celebrating charity, unity, and the spirit of giving.

Organisers expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue, keeping Mukah’s traditions alive and strengthening connections among its people.
