KUCHING – More than half of Sarawak’s government services are now available online, with 59.4 per cent of services digitised, marking a major milestone in the state’s civil service transformation.
The achievement was announced by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg during the Hari Perkhidmatan Awam (HPA) Sarawak 2025 celebration (a.k.a. Sarawak Public Service Day 2025) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
He said the digital shift reflects the civil service’s commitment to efficiency, agility and outcome-driven governance, in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“This effort builds an inclusive, efficient and people-centric government by leveraging technology to enhance transparency, strengthen accountability and ensure equal access to development opportunities for all Sarawakians,” he said.
The Premier added that by 2030, every sector of Sarawak’s economy – from agriculture and industry to services and governance – will be digital, making innovation and technology integral to serving the people.
He stressed, however, that transformation is not solely about technology but also about mindset change. Civil servants were urged to embrace innovation as a daily practice, think creatively, adapt readily and act decisively to ensure the civil service remains responsive and effective.
Abang Johari explained that aligning systems, talent and governance frameworks with innovation, sustainability and inclusivity will strengthen Sarawak’s collaboration with the private sector and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
Such partnerships, he said, form the backbone of a high-performance ecosystem that enhances effectiveness, drives enterprise growth and accelerates Sarawak’s transition towards a new economy.
The Premier’s remarks highlighted the civil service’s evolving role in shaping Sarawak’s digital future, ensuring that technology adoption is matched by strong governance and accountability.
The event was attended by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, senior officials, and representatives from both state and federal civil services.
The celebration underscored Sarawak’s determination to modernise its administration, with digitalisation seen as a cornerstone of its 2030 vision for inclusive and sustainable development.
