JEMORENG – A total of 60 residents from the asnaf group in the Jemoreng State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area received food basket donations on Monday, as part of ongoing efforts to ease the burden of rising living costs.
The Food Basket Donation Programme, organised by the Jemoreng UN Service Centre, was carried out across the Igan Subdistrict and Kampung Tian in Matu District.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, particularly households struggling with financial pressures.
The donations were personally delivered by Dato’ Murshid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and Jemoreng assemblyman.
His involvement underscored the importance of direct engagement between local leaders and the community.
Of the 60 recipients, 30 were from Matu District, including Kampung Tian. The remaining 30 beneficiaries came from six villages in the Igan Subdistrict: Kampung Baru Dagang Igan, Kampung Baru Islam Igan, Kampung Pulau Igan, Kampung Tengah Igan, Kampung Sekerang Igan, and Kampung Shariff Sekerang Igan.
Organisers explained that the programme was not only aimed at providing immediate relief, but also at strengthening ties between grassroots communities and their representatives.
By ensuring that aid reaches those most in need, the initiative demonstrates the continuous commitment of the PBB Jemoreng Service Centre to prioritising welfare.
Residents expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that the food baskets would help ease household expenses during challenging times.
The organisers added that such programmes are vital in reinforcing solidarity and ensuring that no community is left behind.
This latest distribution forms part of a broader series of welfare initiatives across Sarawak, designed to support families affected by the rising cost of living while fostering closer cooperation between government agencies and local communities.
