TANJONG MANIS – A significant portion of the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation for the Semop State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area has been prioritised for infrastructure development, with 60 per cent of funds channelled to roads, bridges and community facilities.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) and Semop State Assemblyman Datuk Abdullah Saidol said that since taking office, he has consistently directed RTP allocations towards upgrading connectivity and essential facilities across the constituency.
“While the government focuses on the construction of major roads and bridges, every year I use 60 per cent of RTP allocations to build or upgrade the road network in the Semop DUN area.
Apart from roads, focus is also given to the construction of new mosques and community halls to meet the needs of the people,” he explained during a working visit to several villages on Pulau Bruit.
He noted that the Sarawak Government has invested RM5 billion over the past seven years in road and bridge projects, particularly in rural and coastal areas, underscoring its commitment to improving accessibility and living standards.
During his visit, Datuk Abdullah officiated several completed projects, including:
- Phase 1 Kampung Tekajong Internal Road Upgrading Project worth RM538,000, aimed at improving mobility and daily comfort for residents.
- Phase 2 Kampung Tekajong Internal Road Upgrading Project (Jalan Merdeka/Muhibbah) worth RM500,000, providing a stronger village road network.
- Penipah Village Hall Upgrade Project worth RM710,000, delivering a more comfortable venue for community, social and official programmes.
The ceremonies highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that rural communities benefit directly from infrastructure upgrades.
Datuk Abdullah stressed that such projects are vital for long-term development, enabling better connectivity between villages and longhouses while also supporting social cohesion through improved communal facilities.
Also present during the visit were Public Works Department (JKR) District Engineer Daro Faizul Hashim and Daro District Officer representative Sheryl Aida, who joined in reviewing the progress of the projects.
The initiatives reflect the government’s broader strategy under the RTP to strengthen rural infrastructure, ensuring that communities in Semop and Pulau Bruit remain connected, resilient and well-supported.
