616 Santubong Residents Receive Class B2 Licence Assistance

KUCHING – A total of 616 candidates from the P193 Santubong parliamentary constituency have received assistance to obtain Class B2 motorcycle driving licences under a programme held in Kuching on Saturday.

The presentation ceremony for the 2026 Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme was held at Juma’ani Hall, Wisma SABATI, and was officiated by P193 Santubong Member of Parliament and Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Hajah Nancy Shukri.

The recipients were candidates who had completed the required screening process and subsequently passed the prescribed theoretical and practical examinations for a Class B2 licence.

The programme was organised as an initiative to support mobility among eligible members of the Santubong constituency by helping participants obtain motorcycle licences at a more affordable cost.

For many licence applicants, the ability to obtain the necessary qualification can provide greater flexibility in travelling for work, education and other daily activities. The programme therefore focused on expanding access to formal licensing for eligible candidates.

The participation of 616 successful candidates also reflects the scale of the assistance provided within the P193 Santubong constituency during the 2026 programme.

The ceremony brought together representatives involved in the implementation of the initiative, including the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak.

Also present was JPJ Sarawak director Norizan Jili, who represented the department at the event.

The licensing assistance programme included both theoretical and practical requirements, meaning successful participants had to meet the established conditions and pass the relevant tests before receiving their Class B2 licences.

The Class B2 category is associated with motorcycles of engine capacity not exceeding 250cc. Obtaining a valid licence is a legal requirement for riders and is also part of efforts to ensure that road users have the necessary knowledge and practical skills before riding on public roads.

JPJ Sarawak expressed its appreciation to the parties involved in supporting the implementation of the programme, including those who contributed directly or indirectly to its delivery.

The department said continued cooperation among the relevant parties would be important in ensuring that similar initiatives could be strengthened in the future.

Beyond improving access to driving licences, programmes of this nature also have a road safety dimension. Participants who complete the required training and examinations are expected to understand basic road rules and demonstrate the practical skills required for their licence category.

JPJ Sarawak said it hoped initiatives such as the programme would contribute to the development of more licensed, competent and disciplined riders.

The department also stressed the importance of safety among motorcycle users, with responsible riding and compliance with traffic regulations remaining key elements of efforts to improve road safety.

The presentation ceremony marked the completion of the latest Class B2 licence assistance initiative for eligible participants in the Santubong constituency.

The programme combined financial assistance with the formal licensing process, giving successful candidates an opportunity to obtain recognised qualifications while reinforcing the importance of competence and safety on the road.
