Johor Bahru Court Sets RM16,000 Bail for Male Accused, RM14,000 for Bella
Johor Bahru, 25 April 2025 – Eight individuals, including a woman known as Bella, have pleaded guilty to charges of threatening to kill, beating, and illegally confining a 22-year-old man in an apartment in Plentong, Masai.

The accused—Muhammad Aqmal Hafifi Mustafa Kamal (25), Ahmad Rushdi Jumadi (23), Muhammad Nur Shafiq Abdullah (25), Muhammad Haikal Zulkarnain (19), Mohamad Amierul Hakim Shamsuri (23), Mohamad Danish Hakim Kamaruddin (20), Syamsul Hamiey Saiful Razali (19), and Nuredrianna Balqqisyh Anabella Norazman (22)—faced three charges in the Magistrate’s Court today.
The Charges
- Threatening to Kill – The group allegedly intimidated Muhammad Faris Syahmi Mohd Ridzwan, threatening to cause his death (Penal Code Section 506).
- Blackmail & Assault – They reportedly beat the victim, demanding RM3,000. Unable to pay, he handed over RM650 and his Yamaha Y16 motorcycle keys (Penal Code Section 384).
- Illegal Confinement – The group, along with two others still at large, confined the victim (Penal Code Section 342).
Additionally, the seven male accused admitted to a fourth charge of causing physical harm (Penal Code Section 323).
Court Proceedings
Magistrate Atifah Azimah Wahab heard the case, with Johor prosecutors requesting RM10,000 bail per charge. However, defense lawyers from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) argued for lower bail, citing financial struggles:
- Three accused, including Bella, are unemployed.
- Four work as factory workers, earning RM1,200–RM2,000 monthly.
- One is a club worker.
- Bella, who lives with her parents, also suffers from asthma.
The court set bail at:
- RM16,000 (with one surety) for each male accused.
- RM14,000 (with one surety) for Bella.
Sentencing and case facts will be presented on 3 June 2025.
Background of the Case
The incident occurred between 10 PM on 18 April and 4 AM on 19 April at a Plentong apartment. Police arrested the suspects while they tried to escape.
Earlier, a viral video showed the victim limping after the assault, sparking public outrage. Authorities acted swiftly, leading to the arrests.
Possible Penalties
If convicted, the accused face:
