Teen Survives House Fire in Kuching Caused by Unattended Cooking

KUCHING – A teenage girl had a narrow escape when a fire broke out at her home in Taman Orchidwood, Matang, early this morning due to unattended cooking. The Fire and Rescue Department quickly responded and safely rescued the girl.

The incident occurred around 8.41 am when thick smoke engulfed the house after cooking left unattended on the second-floor kitchen caused a fire. The teenage girl was still asleep in her room when the fire started.

Firefighters from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived swiftly at the scene. According to Operations Commander Rahman Abang Deni, the team had to cut through the door lock to gain entry into the house.

“The teenager was found unharmed, and our team immediately rescued her. We extinguished the fire and conducted ventilation work to clear the smoke from the house,” Rahman said when contacted.

Thankfully, the fire did not damage the house structure. The operation was fully completed by 9.18 am.

The Fire and Rescue Department urges the public to always monitor cooking activities and ensure stoves are turned off before leaving the kitchen to prevent similar incidents.

This case serves as a reminder of how a moment of distraction can lead to dangerous situations. Safety precautions can prevent such incidents and protect lives.
