Major Fire at Aerospace Manufacturer in Pennsylvania Causes Shelter-In-Place Order

Major Fire at Aerospace Manufacturer in Pennsylvania Causes Shelter-In-Place Order

A massive fire at an aerospace manufacturer’s facility in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, has led to school closures and a shelter-in-place order for residents in the area. The fire, which started around 9:30 p.m. Monday at SPS Technologies, forced the evacuation of the building. Fortunately, all employees were accounted for, and no injuries were reported.

Witnesses described hearing an explosion and seeing flames inside the warehouse, prompting emergency services to act quickly. SPS Technologies, a global supplier of aerospace fasteners and components, had to temporarily cease operations as hazmat crews worked to monitor air quality and contain the fire.

The Abington Township Police issued a statement advising local residents to remain indoors as smoke and harmful particles from the blaze spread across the area. Businesses within a one-mile radius were instructed to close until further notice. Schools in Abington and Jenkintown districts, along with all private and parochial schools, were closed for the day.

Public transportation also faced significant disruptions. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) suspended service on three regional rail lines, warning of potential delays across the system.

Authorities are continuing to assess the situation, and the shelter-in-place order remains in effect until the fire is fully controlled and air quality returns to safe levels. – abc news
