KUCHING, Feb 25 – Sarawak is taking a significant step forward in strengthening its energy infrastructure with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of a condensate refinery in the state.
The MOU was signed between Senari Synergy Sdn Bhd, Tulen Energy Sdn Bhd, and Ocean Vantage Engineering Sdn Bhd in the presence of Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. The ceremony was held at the Hikmah Exchange Event Centre during the EIC Connect Week, signifying Sarawak’s commitment to enhancing its energy sector and economic growth.
A Boost for Sarawak’s Energy Industry
The proposed refinery will process local condensate, a by-product of Sarawak’s rapidly expanding natural gas industry, into high-value petroleum products such as naphtha, jet fuel, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This initiative aligns with Sarawak’s long-term vision to position itself as a leading regional energy hub and drive industrial growth through strategic investments in downstream oil and gas projects.
Next Steps: Feasibility Studies and Site Selection
Following the MOU signing, the consortium will conduct a detailed feasibility study, assess potential sites, and engage stakeholders to determine the commercial viability of the refinery. If successful, this project will further strengthen Sarawak’s role in the global energy market and create new economic opportunities.
