Elderly Couple Arrested After Hit-and-Run Involving Lorry Driver in Kajang

Kajang: Police have arrested an elderly couple suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run incident that left a lorry driver injured in Bandar Teknologi Kajang last Friday.

Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, confirmed that the two suspects, aged 73 and 65, were arrested at 11.15 pm on the night of the incident. Both are now under investigation to determine the cause of the accident and the motive behind their actions.

The case came to light after the victim’s mother, a 63-year-old woman, lodged a police report at 4.54 pm yesterday. According to her statement, her son, a 42-year-old lorry driver, was hit by a vehicle driven by the elderly couple. The impact caused severe injuries to the victim, leaving him unable to move.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident may have been intentional, raising concerns over possible disputes or misunderstandings between the couple and the lorry driver. However, the exact reason behind the incident is still under investigation by the police.

This shocking case has attracted public attention due to the involvement of elderly suspects, which is rare in such serious cases. Many netizens expressed surprise on social media, questioning what could have triggered such an incident.

Assistant Commissioner Naazron assured the public that a thorough investigation will be carried out. “We urge all parties to remain calm and avoid speculating until the investigation is complete,” he said.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon or means. If found guilty, the suspects could face imprisonment and fines.

The police also remind road users to always remain calm and practice patience while driving to avoid unnecessary conflicts and dangerous situations on the road. -hmetro
