Excavator Catches Fire Near Darul Hana Mosque, 30% Burnt

PETRA JAYA: An excavator caught fire early this morning on Jalan Tun Dato Abang Haji Mohd Salahudin, near the Darul Hana Mosque, causing alarm among nearby residents and motorists.

According to a spokesman from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call was received at 4.51 am, prompting a quick response from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP). Firefighters arrived at the scene by 5.00 am and discovered that the excavator had already sustained 30 per cent damage from the flames.

Led by PBK I Pero Guyuh, the firefighting team swiftly deployed attacking techniques to prevent the fire from spreading further. Their quick action successfully brought the situation under control, and the fire was fully extinguished within 20 minutes.

Thankfully, no casualties were reported in the incident. After ensuring the area was completely safe, the fire department concluded their operations and left the scene. The cause of the fire and the total cost of damages are currently under investigation.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular safety checks on construction equipment to prevent such unforeseen mishaps. Authorities urge contractors and machinery operators to ensure proper maintenance and fire safety measures at all times.
