KOTA SAMARAHAN, 5 April 2025 – A 21-year-old man lost his life in a tragic accident involving two motorcycles early this morning at Mile 9, Jalan Kuching-Serian.
According to Kota Samarahan District Police Chief, Superintendent Damataries Lautin, the victim was identified as Mohammad Nur Naqib Mohamad Jefferydin from Kampung Sri Arjuna.
The accident happened around 1.30am when Mohammad Nur Naqib was riding a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle from Kuching towards his village. As he approached Mile 9, he applied the brakes suddenly due to a vehicle in front of him about to enter a junction. Unfortunately, he was hit from behind by another motorcycle, a Yamaha LC135, ridden by an 18-year-old.
“The sudden braking caused the motorcyclist behind to crash into the victim. As a result, the 21-year-old died at the scene at 1.51am,” said Superintendent Damataries in a statement.
The second rider only suffered minor injuries and was quickly sent to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.
Authorities have since sent the motorcycles involved to the Kota Samarahan Traffic Police Station for further investigation. Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been brought to the Forensic Unit at Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) for post-mortem.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers dangerous driving resulting in death.
Police are reminding all road users to remain alert, especially during late-night hours, and to maintain a safe distance between vehicles at all times to avoid such tragedies.
