Lorry and MPV Crash at Jalan Pending Injures Three People

Lorry and MPV Crash at Jalan Pending Injures Three People

KUCHING, 15 April – A morning accident involving a three-tonne lorry and a Toyota Avanza on Jalan Pending near ICOM Square left three individuals injured, prompting a swift emergency response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

The accident occurred around 7.30am and was reported to JBPM’s Operations Centre (PGO) at 7.36am. In response, 10 firefighters from the Padungan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched to the scene, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycles (RIM).

According to Operations Commander PBK I Law Kim Hin, the lorry driver was found trapped in the driver’s seat when rescue personnel arrived.

“Firefighters used special rescue tools to free the driver who was later given emergency treatment by the EMRS team before being transported to the hospital,” said Law.

Two passengers in the lorry sustained minor injuries and were also treated at the scene before being sent to the hospital for further care. Fortunately, the driver of the Toyota Avanza escaped unhurt and was able to exit the vehicle safely.

JBPM confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out smoothly, with the scene later handed over to relevant authorities after ensuring the area was safe.

Other supporting agencies were also present to assist in managing the aftermath of the collision.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department took this opportunity to remind all road users to remain alert, follow traffic rules, and prioritise safety, especially during peak morning hours.
