KUCHING: A fire broke out at a workshop located at Lorong Greenville 142, Jalan Batu Kitang, early this morning, causing approximately 30 percent damage to the building and its contents.
The incident occurred at around 7.16 am, when the Fire Operations Centre received an emergency call reporting the blaze. A team from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) swiftly responded, arriving with two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.
Deputy Fire Chief II (TPgB II) Mohd. Raffy Saibi, the Operations Commander at the scene, reported that the fire primarily affected equipment and components within the workshop. Upon arrival, the fire had already spread in a section of the building.
The fire crew quickly took action, using a single stream of water to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further. Thanks to their swift response, the fire was brought under control by 7.50 am, and the operation was officially concluded at 8.00 am. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.
The firefighting operation was carried out with the assistance of nine fire personnel and overseen by Zone 1 Operations Officer, Senior Fire Chief Superintendent (PKPgB) Azaharul Sahari. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.
The fire highlights the importance of prompt and efficient response in controlling fire hazards, especially in workshops where combustible materials are present. Local authorities urge business owners to ensure proper safety measures are in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
