Melaka, 2 May 2025 – A Year Two pupil sustained serious head injuries while her elder sister was also hurt after a hit-and-run accident near SK Demang Hussin in Bukit Katil, Melaka. The incident, which occurred around 1.30pm on Wednesday, has shocked the local community.
The victim, eight-year-old Nur Qasyifa Hazlina Mohd Hayider, was returning home from school with her sister when the motorcycle they were riding was hit from behind by an unknown vehicle.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit confirmed the incident, stating that the two sisters fell off their motorcycle due to the impact. Both were immediately rushed to Melaka Hospital for treatment.
Nur Qasyifa suffered a deep gash on her forehead and also sustained injuries to her eyes and face. Her sister, identified as Nur Qarinah Hazirah, was riding a Yamaha Ego Solaris motorcycle when the collision happened. She also sustained injuries to her body.
“The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” said ACP Christopher. “We are actively searching for the driver involved and urge any witnesses to come forward and assist with the investigation.”
The police are appealing to the public, especially motorists or nearby residents who may have seen the accident, to provide any dashcam footage or information to help identify the vehicle involved.
Parents in the Bukit Katil area have expressed concern about the safety of children commuting to school, calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and safer road infrastructure around school zones.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by schoolchildren and the urgent need for responsible driving near school areas. The community is hoping for a swift arrest of the culprit and justice for the two sisters.
