SARIKEI, 6 May 2025A 54-year-old man sustained injuries and was found in a semi-conscious state after a self-driving accident that occurred along Jalan Simpang Bayong earlier this afternoon.

According to Sarikei District Civil Defence Officer, Lieutenant (PA) Shahrol Azizi Zaidi, his department received an emergency call at around 12.10 pm regarding the incident.

“Upon receiving the emergency call, the Bravo Squad from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarikei was quickly dispatched to the accident site,” he said in a statement to the press.

Once the team arrived at the scene, they discovered the victim still inside the vehicle and in a semi-conscious condition. Immediate first aid was provided by the APM personnel at the scene.

“The victim was given initial treatment at the site before being handed over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) medical team,” Shahrol said.

The injured man was later transported to the nearest hospital by an MOH ambulance for further medical care.

Authorities have not released the full details regarding the cause of the accident, but it is understood that no other vehicles were involved.

The quick response from APM Sarikei and MOH personnel is once again a reminder of the vital role played by emergency teams during road accidents, especially in smaller districts like Sarikei.

Members of the public are advised to always drive safely and remain alert to avoid such incidents, especially on lesser-travelled routes like Jalan Simpang Bayong.
