Elderly Woman Injured, Man Survives Accident on Jalan Lukut Penyulau

KANOWIT – An elderly woman was injured and left unconscious after a head-on collision along Jalan Lukut Penyulau this evening, while a man miraculously survived the crash.

The incident occurred at approximately 3.45pm, prompting an emergency response from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Centre. According to a JBPM spokesperson, the accident involved a Toyota Vios, which reportedly skidded into a ditch while travelling from Kanowit to Sibu.

A team of four firefighters from the Kanowit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle with two occupants – the driver, who was unharmed, and a woman seated in the back, who had suffered significant injuries and was unconscious.

Despite the severity of the crash, the woman was not trapped in the vehicle, allowing the rescue team to swiftly attend to her. Firefighters immediately placed a cervical collar on the victim for support and safely removed her from the car using a stretcher.

The injured woman was then handed over to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) personnel, who transported her to Kanowit Hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, the driver was not injured in the incident and was reportedly unharmed.

This accident highlights the importance of road safety, especially on roads where conditions can be unpredictable. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, but it is a reminder for all road users to drive with caution.
