Bintulu-Abu Dhabi Collaboration Sets Sail to Boost Asia-Pacific Trade

Bintulu-Abu Dhabi Collaboration Sets Sail to Boost Asia-Pacific Trade

The signing of a strategic partnership between Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) and Abu Dhabi Ports Group marks a new chapter for Sarawak’s economic growth and maritime trade. This collaboration is expected to create a powerful maritime route linking Abu Dhabi directly to the Asia Pacific region — with Bintulu playing a key role.

The announcement was made during an official visit by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, to Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. The Premier also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both port authorities at Khalifa Port.

“This partnership will strengthen the port capacity at Samalaju, enabling a direct network between the ports of Abu Dhabi and Bintulu. Abu Dhabi is strategically located at the centre of Africa and Europe’s maritime routes, and this move opens up new gateways into the Asia Pacific market,” said Abang Zohari to the media.

He expressed confidence that Bintulu Port will grow more competitive, leveraging Sarawak’s strategic geographical position. The partnership is seen as a gateway for stronger economic ties, logistics advancement, and international trade.

Among the key dignitaries present during the visit were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, and other high-ranking state officials including the Sarawak Attorney-General and Economic Planning leaders.

This collaboration is aligned with Sarawak’s long-term vision of becoming a major trade and industrial hub in the Asia Pacific region. The development will also potentially generate more investments, improve shipping efficiency, and create job opportunities for locals.

As the partnership progresses, all eyes will be on how Bintulu evolves into a world-class port facility with global connections — a vision that is no longer just a dream, but now a strategic reality. — UKAS EDITION
