KUCHING, 9 May 2025 – A large-scale diesel smuggling operation was disrupted by the Marine Police Force (PPM) in Kuching this month, highlighting the ongoing battle against fuel misappropriation in Sarawak.
In a successful raid under Op Taring Landai, the Marine Intelligence Unit seized a diesel tanker, a tanker lorry, and around 24,000 litres of diesel being transported without any valid documents. The seizure is believed to be linked to syndicates involved in the illegal sale of subsidised diesel.
Commander of PPM Region 5, ACP Ab Rahman Mat Hasan, confirmed that the diesel was confiscated after authorities detected suspicious movement in the area. “This is a clear offence under the Supply Control Act 1961, and we take this seriously,” he said in an official statement.
He added that such illegal activities not only cause massive financial losses to the government but also threaten the fair distribution of controlled goods like diesel, which are meant to benefit ordinary Malaysians.
ACP Ab Rahman stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration in this ongoing fight. The PPM continues to work closely with KPDN (Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living), the Sarawak Rivers Authority, and the Malaysian Marine Department to strengthen enforcement and intelligence sharing.
He also urged the public to play their part by reporting suspicious activities related to fuel smuggling. “We need community cooperation to ensure that these criminals are stopped before they cause more damage,” he added.
The seized diesel and vehicles have been handed over to KPDN Sarawak for further investigation and legal action. Authorities are now tracing the network behind the smuggling attempt to prevent future operations of this scale.
This case serves as a reminder that the authorities remain alert and proactive in protecting the nation’s resources from misuse.
