MIRI, 11 May 2025 – A massive fire broke out at a three-storey motorcycle workshop along Jalan Duranta in Miri late this afternoon, leaving about 70 per cent of the building destroyed.
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre confirmed receiving a distress call at around 4.50pm. In response, a team from the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Miri), located just three kilometres away, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
When firefighters arrived, they found that the blaze had already engulfed most of the first floor of the workshop. The team quickly activated their Operations Response Team (Pasukan Keluaran Operasi – PKO) to control the fire and prevent it from spreading further to nearby structures.
“Our team discovered a major fire involving a three-storey motorcycle workshop that had already been 70 per cent destroyed. The fire started on the first floor,” said a JBPM spokesperson in a statement today.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. Firefighters continued efforts into the evening to ensure the site was safe and no hidden embers remained that could reignite the fire.
As of now, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the total value of losses has yet to be determined.
This incident serves as a reminder for business premises—especially workshops and buildings storing flammable materials—to regularly inspect their electrical systems and have proper fire safety measures in place.
