Ops Gegar: 46 Foreigners Caught in Immigration Raids at 3 Hotspots

KUCHING, 18 May 2025 – The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) Sarawak carried out a special operation called Ops Gegar from 17 to 18 May 2025. The operation targeted three entertainment centres located in Serian, Bau, and Kuching, based on intelligence gathered earlier. A total of 18 officers from the Special Action Force (PTK) were involved in the raid.

During the raid, some individuals tried to run away into nearby forests, but immigration officers managed to stop them. In total, 71 people were checked. Out of those, 46 individuals were arrested, including 42 Indonesian women, 3 Indonesian men, and 1 Filipino woman. These foreigners were arrested for not having valid travel documents, misusing their visit passes, and overstaying their allowed period in Malaysia.

All those arrested have been taken to the Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation. Legal action will be taken under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. These laws cover entering Malaysia without valid documents, overstaying visas, and breaking the rules of their passes.

The owner of the premises was also given a Notice of Summons to Witnesses to help with the investigation. JIM Sarawak said this operation shows their strong commitment to cracking down on illegal immigrants and ensuring all foreign visitors follow the law. — Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia Sarawak
