KUCHING, 25 May – A 35-year-old man was injured in a self-accident early Sunday morning when his vehicle crashed into a roadside guardrail on the Sarawak River Bridge.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident was reported at 4.09am. Firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya station were immediately sent to the scene.

Initial investigations revealed that the man lost control of his vehicle, which ended up crashing into the metal guardrail. The impact caused the driver to become trapped in his seat.

“The rescue team used special road rescue tools to safely free the driver, who had injuries on his face,” said the statement.

Once freed, the injured man was quickly handed over to medical personnel for further treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.

The rescue operation ended around 4.40am. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

This incident highlights the importance of being extra cautious when driving late at night or in the early morning hours, especially on bridges and narrow roads. Drivers are reminded to stay alert and avoid speeding to prevent similar accidents.

Authorities have yet to confirm whether fatigue, speeding, or other factors contributed to the crash. Motorists are advised to rest adequately and drive responsibly, particularly in low-visibility conditions.

As of now, there has been no update on the victim’s recovery, and police are expected to conduct a follow-up on the case.
