RM128,000 Allocated to Repair Longhouses and Boost Community Welfare in Marudi

MARUDI: The Sarawak government continues to prioritise the well-being of rural communities with an allocation of RM128,000 to support longhouse repairs and community activities in the Marudi area.

The funds were presented by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, during a ceremony held at the N.78 Mulu Service Centre in Marudi town on Monday.

The allocation was distributed to four recipients, comprising Village Development and Safety Committees (JKKK) and community organisations under the DUN Mulu constituency. The recipients include:

  • JKKK Rumah Matan, Sungai Ridan B
  • SIDS Rumah Matan, Sungai Ridan B
  • Chinese Committee Members of Marudi Town, Poyut and Lubok Nibong
  • JKKK Rumah Vincent, Tanjung Upar

Datuk Gerawat highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety, comfort, and infrastructure needs of rural communities are met. He specifically expressed concern about the deteriorating condition of support columns at Rumah Vincent, Tanjung Upar, noting that they pose potential safety risks if not addressed urgently.

“I hope this allocation can be fully utilised to purchase materials such as wooden posts and carry out necessary repairs to ensure the safety of residents,” he said.

He added that the funding reflects the commitment of DUN Mulu’s leadership to uplift the standard of living for rural populations by providing quality, safe, and comfortable facilities.

Datuk Gerawat also urged all recipients to use the funds responsibly and transparently, in accordance with the objectives outlined in their applications.
