Carney Vows ‘Unwavering’ Support for Ukraine on Final Day of G7 Summit

Kananaskis, Canada – On the final day of the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reaffirmed unwavering support for Ukraine as the host nation intensified its backing amid ongoing Russian aggression. Carney announced a C$2 billion military aid package and fresh sanctions targeting Russia, emphasizing Canada’s commitment to stand with Kyiv despite internal and external pressures.

Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with Carney during a summit working session. Carney characterized the supporting measures—from military aid to financial sanctions—as “unwavering” and aimed at sustaining maximum pressure on Moscow to bring Russia to serious peace negotiations.

Alongside Canada’s initiative, Carney said the G7 will issue a chair’s statement reaffirming collective sanctions and backing U.S.-led diplomatic efforts. He described the unity shown at a Monday evening dinner as vital: advocacy for “maximum pressure against Russia” was a central G7 theme.

The summit aimed to uphold a strong stance even following President Trump’s early departure. Carney’s message—support will endure “until we achieve a just peace”—reinforces the G7’s determination to maintain solidarity and apply sustained diplomatic and financial pressure to compel Russia to negotiate seriously.
