MIRI: A grocery store in Bandar Baru Permyjaya narrowly escaped major damage after a fire broke out on Thursday afternoon, thanks to the swift and calm response of its owner.
The incident occurred along Jalan Dato Permaisuri, with the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) receiving an emergency call at 2.50 pm, said BBP Lutong Chief Henry Jugah.
According to Henry, a team of firefighters was dispatched immediately to the site, located approximately 14 kilometres from the station.
“Upon arrival, we discovered that the fire originated from an air conditioning unit and caused about 20 per cent damage to the shop’s structure,” he said.
Fortunately, the shop owner had already taken action by using a dry powder fire extinguisher to douse the flames before the team arrived.
“The situation was successfully contained by the owner, preventing a potentially larger disaster,” Henry added.
No injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and total losses incurred.
