Sarawak and Australia’s Northern Territory Bolster Strategic Partnership

KUCHING – Sarawak and Australia’s Northern Territory are set to deepen their bilateral relationship through enhanced cooperation in renewable energy, tourism, education, and regional economic growth.

Robyn Cahill, Northern Territory’s Minister for Trade, Business, and Asian Relations, highlighted the shared economic potential and developmental alignment between the two regions, particularly in sustainable energy and environmental conservation. “Today’s discussions with Sarawak mark a significant step toward collaboration in economic growth, tourism, and strengthening regional connectivity,” Cahill told reporters following a meeting with Sarawak’s Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, at Wisma Sumber Alam.

Cahill led a high-level delegation, including Chief of Staff Brett Hannam, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Department of Trade, Business, and Asian Relations Kelly Ralston, and Director of Study NT Renee Tennent.

The Sarawak side included Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr. Malcolm Mussen Lamoh and Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh.

The meeting explored collaboration in talent development, higher education, oil and gas, eco-tourism, green mining, and food and agricultural security. Sarawak also expressed keen interest in adopting Australia’s best practices in national park management and sustainable resource utilization.

Both regions reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade and investment ties, with Malaysia being the Northern Territory’s second-largest import source. Cahill’s four-day visit to Sarawak is expected to pave the way for further economic and environmental partnerships, fostering mutual benefits for both territories.
