Sarawak Government Channels Major Development Allocation to Kampung Sapit

PADAWAN – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to rural development by allocating a substantial amount of funding for basic infrastructure in Kampung Sapit, under the Mambong State Constituency.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Air and Road) and Mambong Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, revealed that RM6.26 million was allocated between 2015 and 2023 under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) for various infrastructure projects directly benefitting villagers.

“This allocation has supported major works including the RM5 million road from Kampung Parang to Kampung Sapit (2016), the RM150,000 Kampung Sapit Multipurpose Hall (2018), village road and pedestrian path upgrades worth RM200,000 (2020–2022), and RM200,000 for a gravity water piping system (2023),” said Dr Jerip during the Public Infrastructure Launch and Community Leader Appointment Ceremony in Kampung Sapit on Friday.

He also announced two new high-impact allocations:

  • RM20 million for Kampung Sapit Road Upgrade
  • RM9 million for Kampung Kiding Road Upgrade

“The tender process for both projects is expected to begin by the end of June 2025,” he added.

Commenting on the appointment of a new People’s Leader, Dr Jerip stressed the importance of Village Development and Safety Committees (JKKK) and Community Heads (KMKK) in grassroots development.

“Community leaders are the bridge between the government and the people. They play a vital role in ensuring development reaches every corner efficiently,” he said.

He also proposed the formation of village security teams and deployment of the General Operations Force (GOF) in strategic locations to enhance community safety and support local tourism.
