MRSM Betong Celebrates Top SPM 2024 Performance, Crowned Best in Sarawak

BETONG — MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) Betong has emerged as the best-performing MRSM in Sarawak following a stellar achievement in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2024 results, overtaking MRSM Kuching and MRSM Mukah.

To commemorate the success, the school hosted its 2024 Appreciation Ceremony at Dewan Gemilang, MRSM Betong, on Monday. The event was graced by Member of Parliament for Betong, Dato Dr Richard Rapu, who presented awards to outstanding students and dedicated educators.

In his speech, Dato Dr Richard praised the school community for their commitment and perseverance. “This success reflects not only the students’ resilience and discipline but also the unwavering dedication of the teachers who educate the future of our nation,” he said.

He further highlighted the significance of preparing students for the digital era, urging mastery of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and digital literacy.

As part of his support, Dato Dr Richard announced a contribution of RM10,000 to the MRSM Betong Branch Cooperation Body to fund programmes throughout the year.

MRSM Betong Principal, Juhaida Muhat Anuar, described the results as extraordinary, noting a substantial improvement in the school’s overall academic performance. The School Average Grade (GPS) improved from 3.13 in 2023 to 2.20 in 2024. Additionally, the number of students scoring straight A’s (9A/8A) doubled from 20 to 40.

“This ceremony celebrates not only our academic success but also the dedication and effort that went into achieving these results,” she said.

Also present at the event were Henry Jugah, President of the MRSM Betong Consensus Body; Deputy Principal (Academic), Mohd Hafis Idris; Deputy Principal (Student Development), Wan Azizul Wan Mohamad Nor; and Deputy Principal (Talent Development), Hamidah Ali.

With this accomplishment, MRSM Betong sets a new benchmark for excellence in Sarawak’s education landscape.
