Two Men Nabbed in Kuching Drug Raids, Syabu Worth RM8,300 Seized

KUCHING — Two local men were arrested in separate anti-drug operations conducted by Kuching police on Tuesday, leading to the seizure of methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu, worth over RM8,000.

Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, confirmed that the first arrest took place at 12.20 pm in the Tabuan Dusun area. A 39-year-old man was detained by the Kuching District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND).

During the raid, officers seized 5.10 grams of syabu estimated to be worth RM561.00. The suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, although he has no prior drug-related offences. He is now remanded for three days until July 12 to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of two to five years and three to nine strokes of the cane if convicted.

In a second operation around 8.10 pm the same day, the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN IPK) raided a house in the Stampin Baru area. There, they arrested a 46-year-old man and seized a significantly larger amount — 70.50 grams of syabu, valued at RM7,750.00.

This suspect also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and has no previous drug record. He is currently remanded for five days until July 14.

This case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

ACP Alexson encouraged the public to work closely with the police by reporting any drug-related activities in their area to help eliminate drug abuse and trafficking in the community.
