Saratok Festival 2025 Showcases Local Talent and Rural Potential

Saratok Festival 2025 Showcases Local Talent and Rural Potential

SARATOK – The Saratok Festival 2025, held from 1 to 13 July, has once again affirmed the district’s position as a rising centre for tourism, culture, and rural enterprise in central Sarawak.

More than just a festive gathering, the annual event has evolved into a key economic and cultural platform for the region—drawing locals and visitors alike to witness traditional boat races (regatta), arts showcases, and exhibitions by rural entrepreneurs.

This year’s edition culminated with an official closing ceremony officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who described the festival as a symbol of hope and a “catalyst for growth” for Saratok’s ongoing transformation.

“Saratok Festival reflects the spirit, strength, and unity of the people. It is not only a cultural celebration but also a meaningful platform to boost rural economic activities,” he said.

Among the highlights of the festival were the traditional longboat regattas, which drew enthusiastic participation from communities across the district, as well as youth art competitions and local handicraft exhibitions that uncovered new talent and promoted cultural preservation.

The festival also provided an important opportunity for local entrepreneurs to promote their products, especially from agro-based and cottage industries, in line with Sarawak’s push to elevate rural income.

Under the Sarawak Government’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030), each state constituency (DUN) has been allocated RM200 million to strengthen infrastructure, stimulate local development, and support post-pandemic recovery—an initiative that festival organisers say has enhanced rural transformation efforts in the area.

Also present at the closing were Kalaka Assemblyman Mohamad Duri, Krian Assemblyman Friday Belik, and Beting Maro Assemblyman Razali Gapor, along with local community leaders and invited guests.
