MARUDI, 14 July 2025 – The Sarawak Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to rural development through the implementation of the Sarawak Poor House Improvement Project (PPRMS) and solar light installations, aimed at improving the quality of life in interior communities.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, recently conducted a working visit to several longhouses in the Mulu state constituency (DUN Mulu) to ensure smooth execution and community benefit of the ongoing projects.
The visit began at Rumah Panjang Mulin in Kampung Padang Kerbau A, Lubuk Nibung, where six housing units are undergoing roof replacement works under the PPRMS programme, at a total cost of RM44,418. The project, implemented with the active cooperation of local residents, is progressing well.
“I am satisfied with the community’s commitment. Their teamwork reflects strong ownership and shared responsibility in the development of their village,” said Datuk Gerawat.
He then visited the residence of Councillor Michael Salengkor in Sungai Brit, Marudi, to inspect the now-complete solar light installation project, which is expected to improve safety and quality of life in areas lacking access to conventional electricity.
The working visit concluded at Rumah Treddie in Sungai Sengkabang, where Datuk Gerawat reviewed the proposed landfill site in preparation for the construction of a new longhouse.
“These projects are part of the Sarawak Government’s broader strategy to provide essential infrastructure and ensure comfortable housing for all citizens, especially those in rural areas,” he explained.
Datuk Gerawat also engaged directly with the residents, reinforcing that on-the-ground oversight is crucial for effective implementation and ensuring projects meet real community needs.
“The government will not overlook rural communities. We are committed to ensuring that each approved project brings tangible benefits to the people,” he emphasised.
His visit underscored his unwavering dedication as ADUN Mulu to ensure no community is left behind in Sarawak’s development journey.
