BINTULU – A fierce fire engulfed and completely destroyed a timber storage warehouse at Samalaju Industrial Park this afternoon, sending thick smoke into the sky and triggering swift action by the fire brigade.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed receiving an emergency call at 12.37 pm, alerting them to the fire outbreak in the wood branch storage area of the factory.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered the blaze had fully consumed the wooden storage facility, which measured 165 by 165 square feet. The intense flames left the entire structure charred beyond recovery.
“Yes, the fire involved a wood storage room that was 100 percent destroyed by the time we arrived,” said a JBPM Operations Centre (PGO) spokesperson in an official statement.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, and all personnel were safely evacuated. The swift response of the fire brigade helped prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings or posing a larger threat to the industrial park.
Firefighters used two 200-foot hose lines and two nozzles connected to a mechanical pump, sourcing water from a nearby fire hydrant to extinguish the flames.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inspection to determine whether the fire was triggered by a technical fault, human error, or natural causes.
This incident highlights the importance of stringent fire safety protocols, especially in industrial zones storing flammable materials like timber.
