Youth Escapes Unharmed After Midnight Car Crash in Miri Drain

Youth Escapes Unharmed After Midnight Car Crash in Miri Drain

MIRI – A young man had a lucky escape after the car he was driving skidded and plunged into a roadside drain along Jalan Sealine here shortly after midnight.

The incident, which could have turned tragic, occurred around 12.40am. The Lutong Fire and Rescue Department was alerted and quickly dispatched a team to the crash site, located about nine kilometres from the station.

According to Lutong Fire and Rescue Station chief, Henry Jugah, the vehicle sustained significant front-end damage after veering off the road and ending up in the ditch.

“Upon arrival, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) found the car in the drain with visible damage to the front. Fortunately, the driver had managed to exit the vehicle on his own without any injuries before we got there,” Henry stated.

He further explained that no rescue operations were needed, as the victim did not require medical attention. The rescue team focused on gathering details and monitoring the situation before concluding the operation at around 12.56am.

Although the cause of the crash remains unknown, wet road conditions or driver fatigue could be contributing factors, as such incidents are not uncommon during late-night hours.

Local authorities advise all road users, especially young drivers, to exercise extra caution when driving at night and ensure that their vehicles are in good condition to avoid similar mishaps.

This incident serves as a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong on the road – but thankfully, this young man walked away without a scratch.
