Sarawak Premier Welcomes DUBS Delegation, Supports Bumiputera Business Growth

KUCHING – Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, received a courtesy visit from the leadership of the Sarawak Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (DUBS) at Wisma Bapa Malaysia on Friday.

The delegation was led by DUBS President Datu Abang Halmi Ikhwan, along with Sapit Branch President Cr Halim Mohamad, Mandal President Roselyn Long Lah, Dr Sulaiman Sahari, and members of the DUBS supreme executive council.

According to Datu Abang Halmi, the visit aimed to brief the Premier on the Chamber’s ongoing and upcoming initiatives, especially programmes developed in collaboration with the Sarawak government.

“The Premier is consistently supportive of the Bumiputera business community and often engages with us to strengthen entrepreneurial efforts in the state,” he said.

He noted that government assistance, particularly in training programmes for Bumiputera entrepreneurs, plays a significant role in DUBS’ mission to build a resilient and competitive business ecosystem.

The visit also discussed the pressing need to curb the influence of middlemen in Bumiputera trade networks and to streamline procurement processes to benefit small traders and local businesses.

Datu Abang Halmi also conveyed his gratitude to the Sarawak Premier for supporting the establishment of a new DUBS building located at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, which is seen as a key milestone in the chamber’s development.
