Hope for Beladin: 59 Fishermen Families Receive New Homes Under PSN

Hope for Beladin: 59 Fishermen Families Receive New Homes Under PSN

BETONG — A long-awaited dream came true for 59 fishermen families in Beladin as they received keys to their new homes under the Beladin Fishermen Relocation Project (PSN), marking a significant milestone in improving the welfare of the fishing community.

The symbolic house key handover ceremony was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg on Saturday. During the visit, the Premier also toured one of the new homes and presented food baskets to recipients, demonstrating the State Government’s continuous support for the fishing community.

The PSN project, valued at RM21.25 million, is a joint effort between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM), the Sarawak Government, the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM), and the Sarawak Economic Planning Unit.

As part of the project’s first phase, 68 housing units were constructed with an investment of RM6.8 million. Out of these, 59 units have now been officially handed over to their new owners, who also signed ownership agreements during the ceremony.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to strategic relocation efforts, ensuring that fishermen have access to safer, more structured, and comfortable living conditions.

According to officials, the project aims to elevate the standard of living for the fishing community—one of the key contributors to Sarawak’s fisheries sector—by offering better infrastructure and stability.

This effort aligns with Sarawak’s wider development agenda of fostering inclusive growth and strengthening the socioeconomic security of vulnerable communities.
