SARIKEI – A crocodile that had been frequently spotted lurking along the banks of Sungai Nyelong was finally caught today, thanks to the efforts of the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC).
According to Sarikei Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Arrahman Chik, the department received an emergency call at around 12.00 noon regarding the trapped reptile.

“A team led by Senior Fire Officer (PBK) I, Hilary Pitre Ambit, was immediately dispatched to the location near the old ferry base at Sungai Nyelong,” he said in a media statement.
Upon arrival, the team discovered that the crocodile had already been caught inside a trap cage set up by SFC officers.
“The Fire and Rescue team then helped move the cage, containing the crocodile, from the water onto dry land. The entire operation took about 46 minutes,” he added.
The operation officially ended at 12.50 pm without any complications.
Also present at the scene were members of the Sarawak Forestry Corporation and the Sarikei Civil Defence Force (APM), who coordinated the safe handling of the reptile.
Residents in the area had reported frequent sightings of the crocodile in recent weeks, raising concerns over safety, especially for villagers who use the river daily.
This successful capture serves as a reminder for the public to remain cautious near riverbanks and to immediately report any sightings of wild animals to the relevant authorities.
SFC continues to monitor crocodile activity in high-risk areas across Sarawak, aiming to reduce human-wildlife conflict through timely intervention and public awareness.
