SRI AMAN — Rural communities in Balai Ringin and Pantu are set to benefit from major infrastructure improvements following the launch of high-impact projects worth over RM240 million, aimed at elevating living standards and boosting development in the region.
Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts and Balai Ringin Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Snowdan Lawan, announced the projects during the Randau Ruai Programme held at Rumah Panjang Tr Peter Gimang, Kampung Rapak Penyau on Saturday.
The initiatives include the construction of a new Water Treatment Plant in Pantu, valued at RM110 million, funded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development, and a RM130 million clean water distribution project by the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB). The latter project will channel treated water from Slabi, Serian to Balai Ringin, significantly enhancing the region’s water supply network.
Currently in the tender phase, the pipeline project will connect Kampung Jaong to Kampung Empelanjau, benefiting hundreds of rural households.
“This is a major step in improving rural water access. Once completed, families across several villages will have reliable clean water, improving health and overall well-being,” said Snowdan.
Additionally, the construction of Dataran Pantu, a RM2.2 million development now underway, is expected to become a new focal point for community social and economic activities.
Snowdan also highlighted the importance of community empowerment, particularly among women. He encouraged more involvement in traditional arts, handicrafts, and cultural preservation initiatives.
To support these efforts, he announced a contribution of RM10,000 to the JKKK of Kampung Rapak Penyau, and RM5,000 to the village Women’s Bureau as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to grassroots development.
The event was also attended by Pantu District Officer Raca Mulong, community leaders, and district penghulu from across the area.
