KUCHING – In a move to strengthen emergency preparedness among frontline personnel, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian presented an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machine to the Sarawak General Operations Force (PGA) Brigade on Sunday.
The symbolic handover ceremony took place at the Sarawak PGA Brigade Headquarters Health Clinic, with the equipment received by the Deputy Brigade Commander, ACP Rosdi Inai, on behalf of the entire team.
Dr Sim, who also serves as Sarawak Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, highlighted that the contribution reflects the state government’s commitment to enhancing health logistics support for security forces operating in high-risk environments.
“PGA members are not only crucial in maintaining public order but also need to be equipped to respond swiftly to medical emergencies. The presence of an AED significantly increases the survival rate during cardiac events,” he stated.
He also underscored the need for continuous training in using the device, ensuring that personnel are well-prepared to deploy it effectively when required.
ACP Rosdi expressed gratitude for the donation, noting that it acknowledges the critical role the PGA plays in upholding public safety across Sarawak.
Also present at the event were Supt Ku Majidi Che Ku Jusoh, Commanding Officer of the 11th PGA Battalion, senior officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and representatives from the Sarawak State Health Department. The event included a short briefing on the proper use of AEDs.
This initiative is expected to further enhance the operational readiness of the Sarawak PGA Brigade in managing medical emergencies in the field and reflects the state’s dedication to supporting the health and safety of its frontline personnel.
