MELUGU – In a ceremony marked by tradition and modest celebration, Proud Munap was officially appointed as the new Head of the Melugu-Dau area during an inauguration ceremony held at Chendan Hall, Melugu Skim on Sunday.
The ceremony was attended by the State Assembly Member (ADUN) for Bukit Begunan, Datuk Mong Dagang, who congratulated the newly appointed leader and encouraged him to serve with dedication and integrity.
Datuk Mong emphasised the importance of community leaders in ensuring that government policies reach rural populations effectively, stressing that they serve as a vital bridge between the people and government agencies.
“The government deeply values the role of grassroots leaders. Their contribution is essential to prevent rural communities from being left behind in the state’s development efforts. I am confident Proud Munap will fulfil this duty with commitment,” he said.
In conjunction with the ceremony, Datuk Mong also announced financial allocations, including RM7,000 to the Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKK) and RM3,000 to the Women’s Bureau of Long House Jembai Munap, Melugu. Additionally, RM35,000 in grants were awarded to five local organisations to support community development initiatives.
In his speech, Proud Munap expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the Sarawak government and the local community for placing their trust in him.
“I am truly honoured by this appointment. This is more than just a position — it is a responsibility to preserve harmony, promote unity, and represent the voice of the people to the government,” he said.
His leadership is expected to play a key role in strengthening community ties and further aligning rural development with state initiatives in the Melugu-Dau area.
